A bit about us
mi architects is a small practice based in the Dornoch Hub, at the centre of Dornoch, Sutherland. We were formed in 2013 by architects Margot Stoddart and Iona Currie and have grown with the addition of architectural technologist Lewis Currie.
Dornoch provides us with an excellent central base to work across the Highlands with projects stretching throughout Ross-shire, Sutherland and Caithness. When on the road, we will usually be found with a camera and flask on standby to appreciate the stunning views.
mi architects provide a full and flexible range of architectural services including initial assessment and design, planning and building warrant applications, obtaining tenders and monitoring the builder’s contract and programme through to completion.
Your requirements are fundamental in any project, whatever the size or budget. We have established a reputation of providing an enthusiastic, friendly, professional service whilst being approachable and sympathetic to the needs of our clients.
We believe that good design takes recognition of a client’s brief and aspirations whilst reflecting the context of a building’s location and surroundings and connection to place. This, coupled with technical expertise and established liaison with Local Authority officers and other building consultants, ensures that we are well equipped to guide our clients through their whole project.
Whatever the size or scope of your project mi architects can assist you to maximise its potential.
Iona Currie, RIAS, BArch (Hons), DipArch
Iona studied architecture at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh then went on to work at Dumfries and Galloway Council and a Dumfries based housing developer before deciding to practice as a sole practitioner while her two children were young.
Since moving to Sutherland in 2008 she has worked with Margot in a small private practice in Tain, before establishing mi architects.
She lives in Dornoch and, when not working, enjoys exploring the wide open spaces of the Highlands, preferably on foot, although she can be easily tempted back inside with the offer of a warm fire, popcorn and a good movie.
